What INDX Does
Bondtech INDX is an automatic tool-changing system using wireless induction heating and contactless temperature sensing to enable thin, passive tools. This architecture delivers rapid filament swaps and contamination-free multi-material printing with adaptive Dynamic Dual Drive technology.
Material Versatility
Unmatched access to materials, colors, and nozzle sizes — all in a single print. Print technical filaments with soluble supports. Switch from 0.4mm to 0.8mm mid-print.
Universal Flexibility
Works with Klipper, Kalico, and RepRapFirmware. Your Voron? Enhanced, not replaced. Your custom firmware? Supported, not locked out. Your community mods? Celebrated, not controlled.
Creative Freedom
Load filaments once, print all day. Adaptive extrusion eliminates per-material tuning. Start with one Smart Toolhead. Expand to as many tools as your build demands.
What You Can Make
INDX gives you access to a wide range of material combinations, nozzle sizes, and colours in a single print. Here's what that looks like.
PLA · 5 colours
Colour changes with near zero waste.
Five distinct colors printed cleanly in a single run with no pile of purged plastic in your printer.
5 toolsPLA · 8 colours
Colour precision on functional parts.
Colour-coded functional prints that are as useful to read as they are to use without any post-processing.
8 toolsPLA · 4 colours
Hard base, detailed sculpture, single print.
Structural base and intricate colour detail printed together — no assembly, no painting required.

Prime. Don't Purge.
Most multi-material systems share a single hotend, so every color change purges the old material into a wipe tower. It's filament you print only to discard. INDX doesn't share a melt zone. Each material has its own dedicated tool with its own thermal zone and filament path, so there's nothing to flush. INDX still uses a prime tower, but it only re-primes each tool's flow — priming, not purging.
✓ Near zero purge waste
Each tool holds its own material at temperature, ready to go.
✓ Zero cross-contamination
Dedicated thermal zones keep materials completely isolated.
How It Works
No wiring. No complexity.
— Induction heating powers the nozzle
— Infrared sensing monitors temperature
— No wiring in passive tools
— Thin tools, low cost, zero complexity
Every material in its own world.
— Each material in a dedicated tool
— Own thermal zone and filament path
— Zero cross-contamination
— Minimal material waste
Fast enough to not matter.
— Nozzle heat-up: 4–12 seconds
— Complete tool change incl. heat-up: ~14s
— System ready when you are
Any material. No tuning.
— Auto-adjusts to filament properties
— Fully mechanical solution — no sensors required
— Soft TPU to rigid composites
— No manual tuning needed
Your printer. Your setup.
— Klipper, Kalico, RepRapFirmware

TCT Award Winner
Boston, April 2026.
We're incredibly proud to win the award. A big thank you to everyone who continues to support and believe in what we do. This one belongs to the community that believed in INDX before it shipped.
From Our Beta Testers
They volunteered to test alpha units, work through the rough edges, and clear the path for everyone who comes after them.
I am impressed with the simplistic design and overall versatility of the INDX kit.
Beta Tester 01
United States
Been testing for a few weeks, the simplicity and robustness of the design has blown me away. Both in terms of the hardware and the software side.
But truly, the whole nozzle swap mechanism is so elegant to me, and the fact that it's all vanilla macros is just amazing.
I really hate abstracting tool changing/multi material behind a plugin.
Beta Tester 02
Australia
Bondtech's approach to multimaterial printing is clever and innovative. INDX is easier to build, setup, and operate than the systems that have come before it.
Print quality and speed are both good.

FAQ
Bondtech INDX is an automatic tool-changing system for FDM/FFF 3D printers that uses wireless rapid induction heating and contactless infrared temperature sensing to enable thin, passive tools with no electrical or data connections. This architecture allows rapid filament swaps and contamination-free multi-material, multi-nozzle, and multi-color printing.
In multi-material and multi-color printing, INDX solves the high marginal investment required for each additional tool, long printing times, and hardware, material, and energy waste associated with traditional approaches. The result: more materials, less waste, and no wipe towers.
INDX is for anyone who wants to make 3D prints with several materials, colors, and/or nozzle diameters in the same print or print job. You can also prepare and park tools to quickly pick up and use on later prints.
The INDX Development Kit is available now at bondtech.se — Smart Toolhead at $390, tools at $40 each. The INDX for Core One (also known as the INDX Conversion Kit for CORE One/+) is available exclusively at prusa3d.com, sold and supported by Prusa Research.
You need a compatible FDM/FFF 3D printer running Klipper, Kalico, or RepRapFirmware, along with a suitable build volume and a mounting solution for the Smart Toolhead. Generic tool holder CAD files and purchasable accessories are available. Configuration examples are provided on GitHub. INDX is designed for builders — familiarity with your printer's firmware and mechanical setup is recommended.
Yes. Both the INDX Smart Toolhead ($390) and INDX Passive Tools ($40 each) are available to purchase individually at bondtech.se.
INDX supports Klipper, Kalico, and RepRapFirmware (RRF). Configuration examples are available on GitHub. Simple routines mean low complexity to get started — no vendor lock-in, no proprietary plugins required.
Yes. INDX is protected by patents on the specific, novel technologies at its core, without targeting existing tool-changing features or limiting others from creating tool changers. Commercial use of INDX's IP-protected aspects requires proper licensing.
DX stands for Dynamic eXtruder. INDX uses Dynamic Dual Drive technology that self-adjusts to the optimal pre-tension required to print any material, at any requested volumetric flow, and under any 3D printing conditions — from soft TPU to rigid composites, with no manual tuning.
